In depth

Verdict

In the second division of the hurdle we will sdie with Heros Collonges ahead of Before Dark and Red Echo. Being rated in the high 130s over fences, the Welsh National runner-up Heros Collonges has to be considered here in a run-of-the-mill event. Before Dark proved his 50/1 success at Hereford as no fluke when running well under a penalty next time and he is respected, while, despite having shown little in two hurdling runs, the Martin Pipe-trained 56,000 euros purchase, Red Echo, has to be considered in such a modest affair. Five Alley has been knocking at the door over fences, albeit it at fairly modest level, while the lightly-raced The Wooden Spoon would hold claims if getting back to his 2003 bumper form, and he would have needed his latest run. Finally, Call Out is a point to point winner and, much as he did not show a lot on his hurdling debut, he takes a big step up in trip today, so watch the market for clues. As we say, it's modest stuff in the main with the vote going to Heros Collonges.
