      Verdict

If there is give in the ground, favourite Kingston Hill will presumably take his chance. Second in the Epsom Derby, he was then a staying-on fourth in the Coral-Eclipse but the step up in trip is a big unknown and a few of his rivals are proven stayers who won't be hanging around. One is Hartnell, who won the Queen's Vase over 2m at Royal Ascot but could only manage sixth in the Great Voltigeur at York when behind Snow Sky, Odeon, Marzocco and Granddukeoftuscany. Sir Michael Stoute's colt - who had beaten Windshear, Somewhat and Scotland in the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood earlier - can come out best of that quintet again here and is a solid each-way choice though his trainer still only has the one St Leger winner on his resume. Forever Now narrowly beat ALEX MY BOY over 1m6f at Goodwood last month and John Gosden, who also run Romsdal, has trained the winner of this three times in the last seven years. But we fancy Mark Johnston's charge to reverse the form over this extra half-furlong and make a bold bid at decent odds. This is obviously a step up but he's been progressing throughout the summer, has a turn of foot and will stay every inch of the trip.
