Verdict

Some interesting contenders here and it is the once-raced pair of FONTERUTOLI and Count Bertoni who we will concentrate on; preference is for the first-named. Marco Botti's runner showed plenty of promise on his debut at Yarmouth and although it was only a small field and perhaps dubious form, he stayed on well for a 20/1 third and connections will have been pleased with that start. That experience will not have been lost on this son of Verglas and a big run is expected. The most interesting of the newcomers look to be Pat Seamur, a well-related son of Compton Place, and Mingun Bell whose dam is from a very good US family. Mighty Clarets, Lady Navara and Victoire De Lyphar need to improve markedly on their first runs, whilst Quaestor should be all the wiser for his Lingfield debut last month. Count Bertoni was second on his debut at Newcastle, running on for a never nearer second behind Kaptain Kirkup; that form looks fair enough and a repeat of that effort should see him go close. The market will help provide some further clues however it is Fonterutoli who is narrowly preferred.
