Verdict

Plenty in with chances in an open event but marginal preference is for Rafferty with Faithful Warrior, Ace of Hearts and Green Line amongst the likely dangers. Rafferty hails from the Clive Brittain yard which continues in tremendous form and the selection appears to have solid credentials judged on recent efforts. The four-year-old looked better than ever when making a winning seasonal reappearance in a useful conditions event at Wolverhampton in March and was far from disgraced when third in a valuable handicap at Lingfield next time. The Lion Cavern colt probably found the one-mile Lincoln handicap stretching his stamina on his latest start but wasn't beaten far in the circumstances and should be seen to even better effect from his low draw on a track that suits. Faithful Warrior failed to get home over ten furlongs at Epsom last time but, like the selection, is a course and distance winner and has claims on last month's second behind Mystic Man in the Newbury Spring Cup. Ace Of Hearts looked to be coming to hand when third in a competitive Sandown handicap last time and is another for the short list. Green Line lost his form towards the back end of last season but is fairly treated on the pick of his form so shouldn't be dismissed while recent Warwick winner Cal Mac and the lightly weighted Flying Treaty are others to consider.
