    Verdict

Quedex, who has been running well over hurdles of late, made a successful return to the flat at Kempton last week and has to be respected despite the 5lb penalty but preference is for Malarkey, who is preferred to Herne Bay. The selection has a bit to find with Quedex on running at Kempton but had been given a break since winning at Newbury in April and looked as though the run would do him good. Stef Liddiard's gelding is taken to reverse Kempton form. Herne Bay overcame an absence since September when winning at Southwell on his reappearance but has more to do now off a 6lb higher mark, while all-weather winner Prince Of The Wood faces a difficult task from 6lbs out of the weights proper. Top weight Almizan could do with some help from the handicapper and of more interest could be King Flyer, who is closely matched with the selection on Newbury form but has disappointed since. The booking of Kieren Fallon for Ocean Tide takes the eye and, along with Martin Pipe's Calamintha, is another worthy of a mention. However, Malarkey has been in good form this term and is taken to bounce back from a below par effort last time.
