In depth

Verdict

An intriguing event, with a number in with chances, but Mr Smudge is taken to go one better than in last year's race. He is also a course and distance winner, so likes it here. Pro Bono is held on the form of last year's event but Smile Pleeze, with six lengths to find, could make a race of it. Penthouse Minstrel could improve for the application of a visor. Carbonado has bits of form, as does Game Gunner, for whom Polly Gundry has been booked. Into The Black would have claims on old form but has a 1,071-day absence to overcome. Thatsforeel and Westerton should be watched in the market.
