Verdict

If you're not ahead by now then it might be time to wave the white flag, however, if feeling brave, it might be worth siding with LORD GENEROUS for whom the ground should be ideal; the major dangers are likely to include C'Est Ca and Balthazar King. The last-named is interesting given the title of the race and he looks fairly handicapped. His jockey will be full of confidence after a win here yesterday and a bold bid is expected. However we prefer one of Nicky Henderson's crew, namely Lord Generous. He ran with credit behind Tell Massini here in December and a mark of 135 looks fair, with the shorter trip offset by the punishing finish. Stablemate Peveril is firmly on an upward curve and his jockey knows him well having ridden him to victory last time out, Sarando's form looks solid but his mark is high as a result, whilst Pause And Clause is potentially well-handicapped and not to be underestimated. Saticon is far from exposed, Earth Magic is an interesting recruit from chasing for an in-form Evan Williams, whilst Larkwing should be spot-on after a recent spin around Dundalk. Fairyland is well-treated if lasting home, Born Again looks well-handicapped given Fakenham didn't seem to suit last time out, whilst C'Est Ca's Puyol form may receive a boost earlier in the day. Balthazaar King has been unfortunate to bump into a host of good horses this winter but he has the best jockey in the race aboard and is interesting, along with Radium (in a handicap for the first time) and Always Bold (consistent and gutsy). Recent winners Clova Island, Quentin Collonges and Meath All Star all look to be on an upward curve and as a result it would be no surprise to see any oblige, whilst Love Of Tara is a lovely mare who gallops all day and she won't lose for lack of trying. Good luck; our preference is for Lord Generous.
