Verdict

Victory for Victoria Pendleton's mount Pacha Du Polder would capture the headlines but, though Paul Nicholls' runner is capable, the former Olympic cyclist surely lacks the experience for a race like this against Britain and Ireland's top amateurs. On The Fringe beat Pacha Du Polder in the Fox Hunters' Chase at Aintree last year just weeks after landing this prize under Nina Carberry. His regular pilot is back on board today after he disappointed under Jamie Codd at Leopardstown but that latest run is a worry as he isn't getting any younger. Codd rides Aupcharlie in this and he beat the odds-on Marito at Oldtown last month, though the runner-up could reverse that form over the longer trip. Paint The Clouds was only third when favourite for this last year and had every chance. But he should again beat Alskamatic, Current Event, Brackloon High and Temple Grandin. Mr Mercurial and Impact Area are both prolific pointers with the former already won over these fences – the latter made Mendip Express pull out all the stops at Fontwell last month. IT CAME TO PASS is only six so lacks a bit of experience but he ran a cracker behind the ill-fated You Know Me at Leopardstown last time and that form ties him in closely with the leading Irish hopes.
