Verdict

DEUTSCHLAND can land a typically competitive renewal of the Coral Cup, with Quanititveeasing and Sir Harry Ormesher battling it out for minor honours. Willie Mullins' charge has been something of an underachiever so far, but that's reflected in this rating and he should run better now granted a pace to chase. He's got plenty of experience in big fields such as this and should have conditions to suit, so gets the vote ahead of Quanititveeasing. Nicky Henderson's charge runs here in preference to one of the novice races, an indication perhaps that connections consider him to be well treated. That appears the case as the horse looked extremely impressive before circumstances conspired against him at Kempton last time and this talented youngster is only opposed due to a lack of experience in big handicaps against hardened campaigners. Sir Harry Ormesher is another who does have experience of this type of affair and he won nicely last time, beating Good Old Thyme in the process. There's no doubting this is tougher but Alan King's runners have turned the corner of late and he could yet have more to give, although our feeling is the handicapper may just have collared him. Plenty of others have chances, notably Silk Affair who has winning form at the festival but this one hasn't been running with much promise of late and is taken on. Likewise, Spirit River has questions to answer following a poor run last time but he is at least unexposed and could surprise a few. Wishful Thinking is another novice with claims having remained unbeaten this season, so with the yard in such good form having saddled Menorah to win on Tuesday he's certainly considered, but again we're prepared to overlook the novices in this contest. Lake Legend isn't totally dismissed despite being the apparent second-string of the yard, Shadow Dancer has a lovely racing weight but this will be his toughest test to date, whilst stablemate City Theatre should relish the stiff finish and has the assistance of AP in the plate. Takeroc is likely to be sent off at massive odds but could represent each-way value as he's talented when on song, but the claims of Deutschland are just about the most compelling on offer and he gets the most tentative of votes.
