Verdict

The amateur jockeys and their mounts take centre stage in the Foxhunter Chase where Whyso Mayo has solid claims of repeating his success of 12 months ago and, as he comes into this year's renewal in better form than last year, is taken to win again with the main threats looking to come from Bica and Climate Control. The last mentioned may have found the going too testing at Fairyhouse last month and should do better on today's more suitable ground. Patches represents strong connections in this grade and this dual point-to-point winner of this season has to be respected on ground that suits. Honourable Spider has done most of his racing in points but has won his only two starts in hunter chases and cannot be ruled out but is more difficult to weigh up than Control Man, who lost his way when with Martin Pipe and is probably best watched. First Down Jets is becoming expensive to follow and of more interest may be Eddie O'Grady's Ned Kelly, who comes here on the back of a couple of wins in Irish points. Haydock winner Cobreces and Foly Pleasant, who bounced back to winning ways at Ludlow last time are others worthy of a mention although more solid claims are probably held by the progressive Bica. Whyso Mayo has been in good form on the run-up to a repeat success though and he is marginally preferred.
