Verdict

Redford Road stayed on strongly to spring a surprise in a Grade 2 over 3m here last month but the drop back in trip is a worry and he also has a penalty to carry. Improving Warwick winner Welsh Saint looks the pick of Nicky Henderson’s two runners but maiden Protektorat is worth a try over this longer trip as he stayed 2m2f in France and Dan Skelton’s Sandown runner-up is also preferred to Ofalltheginjoints, who appears to have reached the limit of his capabilities. IMPERIAL ALCAZAR has only won an Aintree maiden so far but was unlucky not to follow up in a Class 2 at Newcastle and looks more than capable of stepping up to this grade – the same connections were responsible for last year’s winner.
