In depth

Verdict

Cornish Sett remains unexposed over hurdles and looks to be potentially well treated for his debut in a handicap so gets the vote ahead of Caraman and Kyper Disco. The last mentioned caught the eye on his most recent start when not given the hardest of rides and may be capable of better than he has shown so far. Nicky Henderson's gelding rates a bigger threat than Martin Pipe's two runners Yourman and Murat, who have claims on form but hail from a stable that is out of form. Mr Boo has more to do than when winning at Doncaster last time, especially off a 14lb higher mark and of more interest may be the Ian Williams-trained Kilgowan, who won well in a novice event at Leicester last time and looks fairly treated for his debut in this grade. The vote though goes to the Paul Nicholls-trained Cornish Sett, who stepped up on his debut effort over hurdles when landing a novices' contest at Chepstow last month in good fashion. A mark of 113 looks perfectly fair and, with the stable in good form at present, he makes most appeal in a competitive opener.
