In depth

Verdict

Quality flat-performer Pevensey made a very pleasing start to his hurdling career at Southwell recently and is taken to get off the mark here at the main expense of debutante Fortunate Isle and Royal Flynn. The selection handled all types of ground on the flat and jumped very well on his hurdling debut, only just failing to catch the very useful Corran Ard. He should have benefited from that experience and looks the one to be on today. However this isn't a penalty kick, and there are a few live dangers, in particular Royal Flynn who also shaped well on his hurdling debut and if showing expected improvement should be involved in the finish. Fortunate Isle makes his hurdling debut today, and Richard Fahey's charge will appreciate any further easing in the going. However it could be that he will need this hurdling experience and so is passed over today. Others of interest include Howard Johnson's Amorist who is expected to fare a lot better than when pulled up on his hurdling debut, whilst Donald McCain's Notre Cybourg will have to step up considerably on his average run last time out here over 3 extra furlongs. The drop back in trip doesn't look ideal for that one so he is also passed over in favour of the selection Pevensey.
