Verdict

DEFENCE COUNCIL posted a most encouraging effort when just denied on his debut at Ripon 15 days ago and, as experience is a vital tool in races of this nature, he gets the nod ahead of Honeymead and Ad Value. The last named is related to several winners and can be expected to benefit from today's outing. He may need another furlong (at least) to be seen at his best, though. The fact he has already been gelded at this young age is also a minor cause for concern. Honeymead represents Richard Fahey, whose flying start to the season has yet to hit the buffers. A close monitoring of the betting is advised where this daughter of Pivotal is concerned. However, Defence Council appeared to already know plenty about his job when he finished to good effect on his introduction and he will be very hard to beat if posting an improved effort today.
