In depth

Verdict

All seven runners here have claims and what can only be a tentative vote goes to Fairlie, who is preferred to Pay Attention and Sunset Mirage. The last mentioned drops back in trip for her handicap debut having failed to stay 1m4f in a Yarmouth maiden last time and is feasibly well treated. Pay Attention has to be respected on the evidence of her last time out second at Nottingham but that was on a soft surface and there is no guarantee that the daughter of Revoque will be as effective on today's ground. Willie Muir's Ivory Coast won on the Polytrack at Lingfield last time and is only 3lbs higher today so has to be respected but has yet to race on turf, while the John Hills-trained Night Frolic is likely to find this tougher than the maiden she won at Kempton earlier in the month. Rabitatit is more exposed than most, while Dame Nova has given little sign of encouragement from four starts so far but may improve for the step up in trip. Fairlie has been similarly campaigned over shorter to date but Lynda Ramsden's filly has at least won a race and, with more to come over today's trip from the daughter of Halling, she gets the vote.
