In depth

Verdict

My Diss Sire is out to make up for an unlucky start last time and gets the vote over Miss Patricia, with Double Spectre best of the remainder. My Diss Sire shaped well on each of his first two outings at Newbury and Leicester, showing good speed on both occasions, so it was a bit surprising to see him tried over 10 furlongs on his next start at Ripon 12 days ago. Even more surprising was the fact that he was sent off as favourite, but backers quickly knew their fate as he was hampered and lost ground at the start. To his credit though, the son of Vettori was quickly back in contention, and at one point was swinging along on the bridle before predictably running out of steam at the two pole, the race going to the progressive Banba who was our fancy for the race. Back to what should be his optimum trip, Ed Dunlop's charge has leading claims. Miss Patricia has had the misfortune to find one too good on each of her four starts this term, but was only just touched off at Nottingham last time and can give the selection most to do while once again having to play second fiddle. Double Spectre is learning but ran too keenly at Folkestone and will need more time to learn to settle, so it is My Diss Sire who is the one to beat.
