In depth

Verdict

La Via Ferrata is the selection, although money for Chess Board would slightly temper the confidence, while Iberian Light is also worthy of a mention as another for the shortlist. Iberian Light ran his best race to date when finishing second in a class 6 handicap here in April. Neville Callaghan's charge sports blinkers for the first time this afternoon and would be a big threat if the move rekindles his interest. Chess Board - a son of Vettori - made no impact in three runs as a juvenile and was a huge disappointment when well backed on his reappearance at Nottingham last month. Sir Mark Prescott has done wonders with similar types so, even though his form is modest, it is not beyond the realms of reality for this Lord Derby-owned colt to pull something out of the fire. However, La Via Ferrata - already a dual winner this term - has performed with credit in slightly stiffer company and is expected to be hard to master on this occasion.
