      Verdict

      Five of the last seven favourites have been successful and it's often won by a smart performer. Richard Fahey was successful with the useful Gabrial in 2011 and Lathom gained plenty of admirers when beating more experienced opposition here last week. The stable are also represented by Gallipoli, who beat what looked a decent field at Musselburgh where he bounced off the fast ground. It's hard to know what FURIANT beat at Musselburgh but he did it very nicely and can only improve so is given the nod. First Selection was sent to Southwell for his debut and won impressively, though he only had four to beat and the second favourite pulled up. King's Mimic was impressive here at the beginning of the month and has to be of interest.
