In depth

Verdict

MOONSHINE CREEK is awarded the vote ahead of Ambrose Princess and Nimello. Hallings Overture rates a mention having won well at Great Leighs last time but he is far more effective on an artificial surface and is opposable on grass. Moonshine Creek is selected, in part, due to the fact that he is better drawn than our two other fancies in the contest but his recent form - apart from a blip at Brighton - also endorses his claims. Nimello is still capable of rolling back the years and the application of cheekpieces may enable him to be more competitive here than he was at Southwell last time. It's been a few years since he last won on turf but he's raced almost exclusively at the all-weather tracks. Ambrose Princess has really earned her corn this summer and her sequence of good runs continued with another second placed finish at Catterick just three days ago; recent exertions may catch up with her at some stage but she has sound claims otherwise. The draw has not been kind though so we'll stick with Moonshine Creek.
