Verdict

Taking a steep drop in class here, it is worth taking a chance on Trinculo to record his first victory for nearly two years; Jonny Ebeneezer and Proud Native are best of the rest in an uncompetitive affair. Proud Native is now a nine-year-old but has been doing well in this company, winning two of his last four starts, and seems sure to run well here under Darryll Holland. Jonny Ebeneezer has failed to sparkle in three starts this season, and was particularly disappointing on the all-weather track at Lingfield last time. However, that was probably over a trip, which stretched his stamina, and Ian Wood's gelding would certainly come into the reckoning on the pick of last year's form. But the one to beat here is clearly Trinculo. Nick Littmoden's six-year-old has been keeping good company this year, and will find today's opposition a lot easier than the likes of Acclamation, The Trader, Bishop's Court and The Tatling, who have beaten him in his previous starts this year. He has shown speed on these occasions but has simply been outclassed, but he is the clear pick on official ratings here and looks the one to be on.
