In depth

Verdict

Amorist may be ahead of the handicapper at present and is the pick over Donna's Double, with Balwearie, and Pee Jay's Dream other leading candidates. Given Sir Mark Prescott's record with this type of animal, the step up in trip appears to be a major clue to his intentions, and as he can line up on a pound lower mark than when third over 10 furlongs on his handicap debut at Lingfield, he will no doubt be backed accordingly, and looks the one to be on. Donna's Double is the most exposed in the line-up, but should also appreciate the step back up in trip, while Balwearie has to give weight away all round but but kept on gamely enough when gaining a narrow victory over Whitby Echo at Thirsk last time. Pee Jay's Dream is very interesting, as like Sir Mark Prescott, Mick Easterby knows how to get a horse well handicapped, and this fellow would have gone close last time at Redcar but for swerving at the start. He should be noted if the betting speaks in his favour, but Amorist could have plenty in hand so gets the vote.
