Verdict

SHREWD, already a winner on heavy ground over 7f at Newbury, couldn't complete the hat-trick when favourite at Newmarket last time but he was only beaten a length-and-a-half and that was the first time he'd raced on a faster surface. With Ian Burns taking off 7lb, Michael Bell's colt deserves another chance. Pearl Castle won at Goodwood when stepped up to 1m last month and should continue to progress but Complexity just scraped home in a four-runner race at Folkestone last time and has been harshly assessed on that evidence. Thirsk winner Kolonel Kirkup could be interesting off a low weight, however, while Bonnie Lesley and Secret Destination have proved fairly consistent though probably hold few secrets from the handicapper. That also looks to be the case with Top Notch Tonto but Dusky Queen has only had four starts and should be suited by the step up in distance.
