Verdict

MCGINTY'S DREAM should take this despite being described as quirky by his trainer after depositing Lucy Alexander before the start of his last race at Newcastle. However, he did everything right in the race and won with plenty in hand, though whether that justified a 14lb rise is another matter. Ribabodiva ran her best race to date on this track on heavy ground a fortnight ago and it wouldn't take much more to get into contention but Danehills Well is better known as a staying chaser these days and he's never won under Rules. Late Date ran a cracking race when runner-up at Kelso in early December and can't have been right when well beaten there three weeks later.
