In depth

Verdict

SMART STEP won twice in testing ground last month, including a victory over today's trip at Carlisle. He carries a penalty for his recent win at Hamilton but there should be more to come from Mark Johnston's three-year-old. Emeralds Spirit also acts in the going and should stay the extra having won an apprentice race over a mile here last week, while Brockfield is another with claims on his second at Hamilton last month when he had a below-par Nolecce well behind. Little Book makes most appeal of the remainder.
