In depth

Verdict

Ex-Irish Flat horse Faasel is taken to make a winning debut over hurdles, with Vicario and Nerone seen as the main dangers in the first race at the Scottish track. Nicky Richards may have something to go to war with in Faasel, and although it is a little early to be talking about the Triumph Hurdle, there is no doubt that the son of Unfuwain lines up with solid credentials. He was good enough to take on Listed company when with Kevin Prendergast, and indeed captured the valuable Paddy Power October Handicap at Naas in October. The ground was soft that day, so he should have no problems with the testing conditions today, and as he is sure to have been well schooled, is worth chancing to go in at the first time of asking. Vicario was a stayer on the Flat for Michael Bell and his two runs for Ginger McCain have indicated that he will need further than two miles over hurdles, although at least his stamina will come into play here. Nerone failed to settle when soundly beaten on his timber debut at Newcastle last month, but was strongly fancied by connections, and the former German Flat horse should not be forgotten. For now though, it is Faasel who is the one to be on, and he can begin to repay a bit of the 230,000gns that owner Jim Ennis had to fork out at the Newmarket Sales.
