    Verdict

PROVOST ran his best race last time since his sole victory and is fancied to gain win number two today at the main expense of recent winner Many Welcomes and Distant Pleasure. Mick Easterby has had this horse for about a year since he was picked up at the sales for 15,000 guineas. His price as a yearling was 72,000 guineas so what looked like a bargain has unfortunately not proven to be one so far. Beaten by an average of 20 lengths on each of his eight starts since, it was a surprise to see him run well last time and he must now be considered ready to strike. Distant Pleasure won well at Carlisle two starts back and then wasn't beaten far at this track on similar ground next time up. He handles some cut in the ground and a thorough test certainly suits. Oeuf A La Neige is a course winner, whilst Many Welcomes won nicely last time at Hamilton but her stamina hasn¿t been tested as of yet and it will be today. Botham is consistent but only has the one success to his name, so a bigger danger may be Mrs Bun who is unexposed but may not necessarily have the required stamina for this new trip on breeding. A typically trappy end of season handicap, with the pin coming down on Provost who can lead them home.
