Verdict

Us Army Ranger has been placed in a couple of Group 3 races this year and has the highest official rating, though the marathon trip is a total unknown. Qewy was an excellent fourth in last year’s Melbourne Cup and later won a Listed handicap in Australia. He hasn’t run this year but the trip won’t be a problem and he was second in the Ascot Stakes 12 months ago. THOMAS HOBSON won this year’s Ascot Stakes on Wednesday in effortless fashion. He is rated 8lb higher than Qewy over timber and it must be significant that Willie Mullins turns him out again quickly - the stable has won this twice in the last five years. Chester Cup winner Montaly represents the yard that won the race in 2013 and 2015 winner Oriental Fox also makes the line-up. Fun Mac, just behind Montaly at Chester, Motherland and Winning Story could all cash in if the market leaders fail to fire.
