Verdict

An incredibly tough renewal of this valuable handicap can go to Mandobi, who is weighted to reverse Epsom form with the Mick Channon-trained Makfool and edges the narrowest of votes today. Channon also sends out Mokabra, who is respected on the very best of his form. But he has not really started to fire this season and the fitting of the headgear for the first time tempers the confidence further away from the top weight. So it may be prudent to look elsewhere when drawing up a shortlist of alternatives. Zonus, State Dilemma and Free Tip, all make a fair amount of appeal and are entitled to go close if they run up to form - with the last named marginally preferred as the best each-way alternative to the selection on these terms. There are a host of others in the race that are open to improvement and the likes of King Jock, Credit and Lucayan Legend are all worth keeping tabs on whatever happens this afternoon. Whereas Parkview Love has slowly been coming to hand this term and an improved show from him is anticipated. However, he in turn, has a little to find with the selection and may need a smaller field to be seen at his best. Therefore, with the step up in trip sure to suit, Madobi, looks a more reliable option and this where the buck stops for us. The son of Mark Of Esteem has been handed a favourable draw towards the stands' side rail, which Kieren Fallon will no doubt be live to once the gates fly open. Luck in running will play a huge part from there until they cross the line. But as the champion jockey was keen to keep the ride after their near miss together on Oaks-day at Epsom, he can put things right if Mandobi can stay out of trouble in a very tricky finale to day-three at Royal Ascot.
