In depth

Verdict

Several of these have endured a hard season; so with that in mind, a chance is taken that Ralph Beckett has Come On Jonny on the ball for his belated reappearance and he can confirm his superiority over Group Captain, while Pevensey, Stotsfold and Peppertree Lane are others that are sure to be popular in the betting market. A move for the lightly weighted Rationale will also be dangerous to ignore, as Stuart Williams' charge has answered every question asked of him of late and he may not have stopped improving yet. This is a stiffer test than several of his previous starts though and, having been raised 23lb since the start of summer, he looks to be up against the wall in this company. Peppertree Lane has enjoyed himself since being upped in trip and obviously handles plenty of give underfoot. It would come as no surprise to see him ridden with more patience today and he will be very hard to keep out of the frame. Stotsfold is another that is creeping up the ratings and has to be respected. However, he does need to conclusively prove this sort of ground is to his liking and no half measure will be good enough this afternoon. Pevensey fully deserved his success here last time and looks sure to make a bold bid to repeat the effort. Group Captain (1lb better off with Pevensey) has done well for Roger Charlton this season and should again be capable of making the rest aware of his presence. However, Come On Jonny is sure to represent a touch more value at the likely odds and, having won on more testing ground than this in the past, Beckett's charge presents a good case from a punting perspective. A late maturing type, Come On Jonny will have very little to find to brush aside top weight if he has strengthened up over the last six months.
