Verdict

Bennys King unseated his rider in the race won by the odds-on Famous Clermont at Haydock in February but got back to winning ways at Fakenham, beating Sir Jack Yeats. Famous Clermont went on to finish sixth in the Hunters’ Chase at The Festival but has ground to make up on runner-up ITS ON THE LINE, who finished second ahead of Tuesday’s easy Exeter winner Shantou Flyer. Cousin Pascal won this in 2021, getting the better of Latenightpass. But Gina Andrews’ mount comprehensively reversed the form 12 months ago and has been targeted at the race again. Magic Saint was turned over by Bennys King at Hereford in January but landed the odds at Wincanton subsequently with Envoye Special and Rewritetherules behind, though Winged Leader looks a bigger danger. Just beaten in the Hunters’ Chase at Cheltenham last season, he’s won three times between the flags since the turn of the year and is one of David Christie’s stable stars. Fier Jaguen has won seven points and has only raced twice under Rules so far but this is a big ask.
