In depth

Verdict

Midnight River justified market confidence when giving weight and a beating to Gallyhill over 2m4f at Ascot. Bravemansgame wasn’t disgraced when third in the Ballymore at Cheltenham having made much of the running until swamped for pace in the closing stages. He’s already a Grade 1 winner this season so is much respected. STREETS OF DOYEN (NAP) and Alaphilippe both ran better than the final result suggests in the Albert Bartlett. John McConnell’s charge kept on into third, just behind Oscar Elite, and the application of cheekpieces could see him take a further step forward today. Cape Gentleman bounced back from a poor run at Leopardstown to win over 2m at Kempton and is worth a try over this trip while it would be no surprise to see the progressive Doyen Breed outrun big odds. Bothwell Bridge is another interesting contender.
