Verdict

Paul Nicholls is seeking a fifth victory in this Grade 1 but Clan Des Obeaux finished behind Bristol De Mai in last year’s renewal and also in last month’s Gold Cup at Cheltenham, though had come out on top when the pair clashed in the King George at Kempton. Elegant Escape was only sixth at Cheltenham and is unlikely to be suited by this lesser test of stamina. KEMBOY was hampered and unseated David Mullins at the first in the Gold Cup which was a pity as he’d looked much improved when beating Road To Respect and Balko Des Flos in the Savills Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas – Ruby Walsh takes over the reins today. Road To Respect has since finished third in the Ryanair but seems better over trips short of 3m.
