Verdict

Many Clouds returns to the scene of his greatest triumph and won in this grade at Kelso last season. Irish Cavalier sprang a real surprise in the Charlie Hall at Wetherby in October before finding Grade 1 company too hot at Haydock so has to go on the short-list as he had Cocktails At Dawn well behind when winning at The Festival in 2015. Le Mercurey won a Grade 2 at Ayr in April but has never won over a trip this far and was behind MINELLA ROCCO at Ascot in February. The latter is now 7lb worse off but improved after to beat last week's Hennessy winner Native River in the National Hunt Chase and he was finishing best of all over 3m3f at Cheltenham three weeks ago.
