Leighton Aspell was out of luck at Market Rasen on his first ride after winning the Crabbie's Grand National for the second year running.

The first jockey to land back-to-back Nationals since Brian Fletcher on Red Rum in 1973-4 when backing up Pineau De Re last year with victory on Many Clouds, Aspell was well beaten on Doctor's Orders in the Watch RacingUK On Sky Channel 432 Maiden Hurdle.

Aspell felt it was only right to get back to the day-to-day business of a normal jumps meeting.

"This is the bread and butter. We have to do it. Without days like today we wouldn't be in a position to ride in the National," he told Racing UK.

"People have tried for years on good horses and not won a National. I've been blessed to get two good rides two years running.

"I thoroughly enjoyed last year, the whole year after winning the National, and I thoroughly enjoyed this year, too.

"Many Clouds travelled lovely and I had a smooth ride the whole way.

More from Grand National 2015

"He's eight now, he's not been over-raced. They've nurtured him, he's reached maturity and he's repaying them now."

Aspell's other mount on the card, Alizee Javilex in the Next Meeting Friday 8th May Mares' Maiden Open NH Flat Race, was declared a non-runner.
