In depth

Verdict

Ian Williams has acquired the services of A P McCoy for QUICK LIVE and it is to that pairing that we pledge our allegiance in this big-field handicap hurdle, with Knar Mardy and King Mak others with claims. The selection has gone up 6lbs for finishing a good second in a competitive Leicester contest last time, when he relished the cut. Very much now going the right way, and with the yard still going well, he can make the most of a nice racing weight here to score. Knar Mardy is a nice mare trained by Charlie Pogson, and she has been put up 3lbs for also making the frame at Huntingdon last time. That was her first sign of getting the hang of the game and she is expected to come on for it and go close today. King Mak has been unlucky to have gone up in the weights twice without winning, but it shows that he is at least in form, and he goes on this ground. The trip is not a problem either, though it is unlikely that lumping top weight around will be to his benefit, so he is taken on. Painted Sky is fit from a winter on the artificial surfaces and if able to transmit his Flat abilities to hurdles then he would be very interesting, though he has to put a couple of very moderate runs over timber at this track behind him. Captain Smoothy is capable if on a going day, but Quick Live is the one for us.
