Andy Murray is through to the quarter-finals of the Rogers Cup after his third round opponent Richard Gasquet withdrew from their contest due to injury.
The pair had been scheduled to meet on Thursday evening in Toronto but the 12th-seeded Frenchman was unable to contest the match on the Stadium Court.
Event organisers tweeted that Gasquet “had to withdraw from our tournament for both singles and doubles due to an abdominal strain".
Murray, the No 8 seed, will now face Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who shocked Novak Djokovic in straight sets. Tsonga needed only 65 minutes to see off the world No 1 6-2 6-2 – breaking serve twice in each set.
The Frenchman’s triumph ended a run of 11 straight defeats at the hands of the reigning Wimbledon champion.
