WTA Gastein Ladies: Germany's Andrea Petkovic secured her second title of the season

Andrea Petkovic proved a step too far for 147th-ranked Shelby Rogers as the German landed her second title of the season in the final of the Gastein Ladies on Sunday.

The 20th-ranked German, who also won the event in 2009 for her first of four career titles, which have all come on clay, came through in straight sets, 6-3 6-3.

Rogers, who fought her way through qualifying, had not been beyond the second round of a WTA event before.

The 21-year-old from South Carolina upset Carla Suarez Navarro and Camila Giorgi earlier in the week before shocking second seed Sara Errani in the semi-finals.

However, Petkovic, who won in Charleston in April and was playing her first clay-court event since reaching the semi-finals at last month's French Open, proved too powerful for the youngster.

Petkovic came back from an early break to level at 3-3 before taking six straight games to win the opener and build a 3-0 lead in the second to secure victory in the Austrian town.
