Home favourite Simona Halep will have the vast support in the Romanian capital after seeing off compatriot Monica Niculescu 6-2 4-6 6-1.
Halep will be looking to get over the line after losing the French Open final and the Wimbledon semi-final within the last six weeks.
Her opponent will be the Italian Roberta Vinci who saw off Kristina Kucova with minimal fuss, 6-1 6-3.
