Second seed and crowd favourite Tommy Haas advanced into the semi-finals of the BMW Open in Munich by beating Andreas Seppi in three sets.

Defending champion Haas is easing his way back in following a shoulder injury and proved to be too strong for seventh seed Seppi, beating the Italian 6-3 3-6 6-3.

The 36-year-old broke to seal the first set before a series of unforced errors allowed his opponent to level the match.

But in the deciding set, the German notched the decisive break - his fourth of the contest - to lead 5-3 and took his first match point to seal the win.

"I'm delighted to have won the key points in the important moments," said Haas.

Difficult match

Haas will now face qualifier Martin Klizan of Slovakia, who beat Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin 7-6 (7/5) 1-6 6-1 to reach the last four.

He added: "It will be another difficult match against Klizan, who is feeling confident after winning six matches here."

Another German, Jan-Lennard Struff, is also through to the last four after beating Ricardas Berankis 4-6 6-3 6-4.

His opponent will be top seed Fabio Fognini, who made it into the semi-finals without too much of a threat from Brazilian qualifier Thomaz Bellucci.

The world No 15 needed just over an hour to dispatch Bellucci, winning 6-2 6-2.
