Jerzy Janowicz edged past Benoit Paire to put Poland into the final of the Hopman Cup for the second successive year, where six-time winners the United States await them.

Having already beaten hosts Australia and Great Britain in their opening two matches in Perth, Poland only needed to win one rubber from Friday's clash with France to join top seeds USA in the title match.

In what was a repeat of last year's final, which France won 2-1, Alize Cornet stalled Poland's progress by beating world number five Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4 2-6 7-5 in the women's singles.

An emotional Cornet was spurred by her determination to win for the victims of the Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris.

Wednesday's killing of 12 people at the offices of the French satirical magazine has triggered a global outpouring of shock and grief and the world number 18 arrived at the Perth Arena court with the message "JE SUIS CHARLIE" (I am Charlie) taped to her bag.

However, Janowicz got the win his country needed when he saw off Paire 6-4 7-6 (8/6) in the men's singles.

The USA pairing of Serena Williams and John Isner clinched their spot in the final with a 3-0 victory over the Czech Republic on Thursday night.
