Top seed David Ferrer is through to the quarter finals of the Copa Claro in Buenos Aires after a straight-sets victory over Santiago Giraldo.

The world number five overcame the Colombian 6-4 7-6 (7/1) to become the fourth Spaniard through to the last eight.

Ferrer, playing his first clay-court tournament since a runner-up finish in the French Open at Roland Garros, is seeking a third straight Copa Claro title.

He clinched victory after one hour and 51 minutes to extend his Buenos Aires winning streak to 12 matches.

Nicolas Almagro is also through after he won an all-Spanish encounter with Daniel Gimeno-Traver 1-6 7-5 6-4.

Eighth seed Jeremy Chardy is next up for Almagro after the Frenchman beat Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-3 3-6 7-6 (7/3).

Albert Ramos added to the Spanish success as he posted a crushing 6-2 6-1 victory over Italian Filippo Volandri, setting up a last-eight tussle with Ferrer.
