Petra Kvitova opened her season with a crushing straight sets victory over Anabel Medina Garrigues on the second day of the Hopman Cup team competition in Perth.

The world No 6 conceded just a single game in beating the Spaniard 6-1 6-0 in 59 minutes.

The powerful Kvitova lost just six points over the final five games of the match as the Czech Republic cruised to a 3-0 victory against the defending champions Spain in their Group B contest.

Medina Garrigues, the world No 100, was part of the Spanish team that collected the trophy 12 months ago when she was partnered by Fernando Verdasco.

This time it is Daniel Munoz-De La Nava who is taking the men's singles role but the world No 194 was no match for Radek Stepanek who won 6-2 6-2 in 79 minutes.

Munoz-De La Nava was only playing because compatriot Tommy Robredo withdrew from the event just 24 hours earlier due to an arm injury.

The 35-year-old Stepanek then teamed-up with his girl-friend Kvitova to take the concluding mixed doubles match 6-3 6-4.

Kvitova, 23, the 2011 Wimbledon champion said: "My off-season preparation was very hard.

"I need to be healthy for sure because unfortunately I have always struggled with my body so I hope it's going to be better. I can be faster, quicker, stronger, fitter."

Meanwhile, Poland continued their winning start to the event after Grzegorz Panfil overcame a ranking deficiency of 277 places to stun world No 11 Milos Raonic 7-6 (7-1) 6-3.

Poland had already moved 1-0 up in the tie thanks to Agnieszka Radwanska's 6-3 6-7 (7-9) 6-2 win over Eugenie Bouchard, and Panfil's huge upset completed the job.
