Sharapova and Connors: New partnership over after one defeat
Maria Sharapova has split with new coach Jimmy Connors after only one match together.
The world No 3 issued a brief statement to tennis.com in which she said the pairing had not been 'the right fit for this time in my career.'
Connors took over from Thomas Hogstedt last month. They worked together in Los Angeles for a couple of weeks before Sharapova's return to action in this week's Cincinnati Masters.
The four-time Grand Slam champion had been out of tournament action since injuring her hip at Wimbledon.
But the return did not go according to plan as she crashed out in three sets to America's Sloane Stephens, Connors' head notably dropping as his new client unravelled.
The split leaves Sharapova without a coach heading into the US Open, the final grand slam of the season which starts on August 26 in New York.
