Serena Williams is hoping for a morale-boosting triumph at the WTA Tour's Rogers Cup in Toronto ahead of the US Open later this month.

The American won the tournament in 2011 while former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova defeated China's Li Na in last year's final, which was held in Montreal.

Williams suffered a shock fourth-round defeat to Germany's Sabine Lisicki at Wimbledon last month and the 31-year-old is eager to impress at Flushing Meadows.

She has won the US Open four times, her first success coming in 1999, and believes success in Montreal in the coming weeks will provide the ideal platform to go all the way in New York.

"It was just such a confidence boost to win such a big tournament, such a staple," she said of her success in the tournament two years ago.

"It was very good for my confidence and it definitely gave me the experience I needed. It propelled me to get to the finals at the US Open."

Williams has an impressive 16 Grand Slam titles to her name, including winning this year's French Open, and she is unsure if she has played her best tennis.

"I don't know if I've peaked yet," he continued. "I don't know if I've gotten to the top of the mountain yet. If I am there, I want to stay there."
