Anne Keothavong failed to follow Laura Robson into the second round of the WTA Shenzen Longgang Gemdale Open after being knocked out by Peng Shuai.

The British No 3 came through qualifying over the weekend to take her place in the main draw.

But Keothavong was no match for the sixth-seeded home star, who cruised to a convincing 6-4 6-0 victory.

Robson, the British No 2, will face Monica Niculescu in the second round after crushing Niculescu's fellow Romanian Edina Gallovits-Hill 6-2 6-1 on Sunday.

Meanwhile, second seed Marion Bartoli of France was hardly troubled as she started her tournament with a 6-1 6-0 thrashing of Venise Chan.

And fifth seed Klara Zakopalova also looked impressive as she saw off Czech compatriot Andrea Hlavackova 6-1 6-1.
