Andy Murray and his brother Jamie recovered from a slow start to reach the second round of the doubles at the Japan Open.

The Scottish duo, who won the title last year, eventually overcame Eric Butorac, the 2010 champion alongside Jean-Julien Rojer, and Jarkko Nieminen 5-7 6-3 10-4.

The Murrays profited from a superior second serve percentage to progress.

Andy, who is also the defending singles champion, and Jamie will now face the top seeds Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek in the next round.

Paes and Stepanek eased through their opening encounter against Julian Knowle and Filip Polasek with a 6-4 6-4 win.
