Former world number one progresses in Korea

Caroline Wozniacki will face Kaia Kanepi in the final of the Korea Open following a three-set victory over Ekaterina Makarova. The former world number one came close to winning the match in straight sets before finally securing a 6-1 5-7 6-4 success. The number one seed was two points from closing out the match in the second set against the eighth-seeded Russian. However, Wozniacki had no qualms with needing a third set to finally see off her opponent, stating that it is the result that counts.

Focus

"I did really well in the first set but couldn't close the second set out; I'm happy I finally broke her one more time in the third," Wozniacki told wtatennis. "She was returning very well but I was just trying to focus on the next ball and the next game, and moving my feet better. At the end of the day I'm happy to get through." The Dane will meet Estonian Kanepi in the final after she got the better of American Varvara Lepchenko 6-4 2-6 6-4. Injuries have taken their toll on Kanepi this season and she is delighted that her tennis is finally able to do the talking. "My season has definitely had its ups and downs because of my injuries, but last year was the same, and my whole career has been a little bit up and down as well," she said. "It's nothing new and I'm used to it."
