Barry Cowan says the hot weather will suit the likes of Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer

Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer will be "rubbing their hands with glee" at the current heatwave, according to former British tennis player Barry Cowan.

The Sky Sports commentator believes the scorching heat will speed up the Wimbledon courts and suit the more attacking players, particularly in the second week.

"The weather we're having this week, definitely Nadal's rubbing his hands with glee and Federer's rubbing his hands with glee because the hotter it is, the court will get quicker and higher-bouncing," he said.

"We know that's going to suit Rafa and I think Roger as well because realistically at the moment, Roger will find it more difficult to beat the likes of a Murray, the likes of a Djokovic, the great baseliners, the great defenders, when the courts are a bit slower.

I think it's going to be very quick and that will favour the attacking players.

"I remember a couple of years ago, 2009, the first year of the roof, when Murray played Stan Wawrinka, it's a lot slower when the roof is on and Wawrinka found it very comfortable.

"But in the second week, I think it's going to be very quick and that will favour the attacking players which will definitely favour Federer."

Nevertheless, Cowan tipped Murray to regain the Wimbledon crown.

More from Wimbledon 2015

"I really like Andy's chances," he said, "firstly because he's playing good, he's playing great tennis, he's confident, he knows he can win here at Wimbledon.

"And secondly because of the Djokovic factor; I think time will tell - we'll see next week how much that French Open loss will have taken out of Novak.

"He's the best player in the world, everyone expected him to win the French after beating Rafa in the quarters and Andy in the semis but he was shocked, I think we were all shocked, by how well Wawrinka played so there's a little bit of a shift almost from Novak being unbeatable to maybe some of the players feeling there is a bit of a chance.

"And finally the court surface, the fact that, as I was saying, it's a little quicker. Djokovic is a great mover but I don't feel he moves as well on a grass court as a Federer or a Murray."
