Andy Murray strolled into the quarter-finals of the Madrid Masters with a 6-2 6-0 demolition of Spain's Marcel Granollers.
Murray was barely taken out of first gear by Granollers, whose game fell apart in the second set as he failed to match the kind of form he showed in knocking out 13th seed Gael Monfils on Wednesday.
The No 2 seed needed only a couple of games to warm up, and from that point there only ever looked like being one winner.
Granollers struggled to find a rhythm on serve and was broken twice in the opening set, Murray showing few ill-effects from his win over Philipp Kohlschreiber that didn't start until 1am local time on Thursday morning.
It was even worse for the world No 62 in the second set as all three of his service games ended in breaks, Granollers showing an increasingly bad temper as the points went against him.
Granollers repeated smashed his racket into the ground during the final game, which saw him give up a 40-0 lead to be broken for the third time, a deep stroke called just out to end his misery.
Murray ended up hitting 17 winners despite the limited length of the match while Granollers helped the British No 1 out by producing 21 unforced errors.
After the game, Murray told Sky Sports he was feeling a little tired, and grateful for a shorter game after the quick turnaround, as well as having some advice for tournament organisers.
"These are the ATP's biggest tournaments. We're told all of the time to speak well of the tournaments," he said.
"If they want to see the top players playing the best tennis, don't have them play matches at 3 o'clock in the morning.
"I'm just going to try to recover as best I can, get myself up for every single match. The last five or six days have been tough. Munich was very difficult, obviously, on the Saturday... Playing the three matches there and then the final was a tough one.
"(Wednesday) was tough too. Luckily I managed to get through this one fairly quickly. It's been a good start for me. I'll try to go as far as I can and hopefully play a good match (on Friday), make it tough for whoever it is I'm playing against."
Murray's opponent will be Canadian Milos Raonic after the fifth seed dispatched Leonardo Mayer of Argentina 6-4 6-3.
