Defending champion Novak Djokovic will face David Ferrer in Thursday night’s quarter-final at the Miami Open.
The world No 1 dropped the first set in his fourth-round clash with Alexandr Dolgopolov before eventually easing to a 6-7 7-5 6-0 win.
He is hoping to complete an Indian Wells-Miami sweep for a second successive year after seizing a fourth BNP Paribas Open title earlier this month.
Standing in his way will be Spaniard Ferrer, who ousted Gilles Simon 7-6 6-0, but cannot take much confidence from his recent record against Djokovic.
Ferrer has not beaten the Serb since 2011 and was brushed aside in straight sets, in their most recent meeting in Shanghai last year.
In the other quarter-final, fourth seed Kei Nishikori will take on home favourite John Isner.
The Japanese player continued his dominant run in the tournament with a 6-1 6-2 victory over David Goffin in the last round.
In his three matches, Nishikori has lost just 10 games and broken serve a total of 15 times.
Isner’s progress has not been so straightforward as he secured his spot with a gruelling 6-7 7-6 7-6 win over Milos Raonic in two hours and 43 minutes.
But the big-serving Florida man will have the support of the crowd as he attempts to reach his first Masters 1000 semi-final in 12 months.
